The Centre for Life was awarded the prestigious accolade at the ceremony which was hosted at Newcastle Marriott Hotel in Gosforth Park on October 21st. The 2008 North East England Tourism Awards recognised the quality places to visit, eat and stay that are found in abundance in North East England, and that are contributing to the region's thriving tourism industry. The awards are organised by regional development agency One North East and supported by Dickinson Dees and Visit Britain.

Linda Conlon, chief executive of the Centre for Life said, "We are very proud to have won this award which recognises the excellent day out that the Centre for Life offers. We have a loyal visitor base from around the North East, who time and again cite the variety of activities on offer under one roof as their reason to visit. The key to Life's appeal is that visitors can feel science come alive and have a hands-on experience like no other in the region."

The Centre for Life will now go on to represent the region in the national Enjoy England Awards for Excellence, which are recognised as 'Oscars' of the tourism industry. The awards will be held in London next April.
