Let us send a team of Science Explainers to your school to deliver one of the workshops below.
For a standard fee of £300 per day we can send two science explainers to your school to deliver hour-long sessions to different groups, or to work in greater depth with a specific group. We can be at most schools in the region by 10am.
Current outreach topics offered:
Stamp Rockets: All ages
1 hour session (for the whole class)
A rocket building practical can be delivered as a stand-alone workshop enabling more classes to participate in the activity. The session has a very strong design and technology approach.
Animal Adaptation Road show: Differentiated for KS1 or KS2
Two teams compete with each other as they think like scientists and explore the fascinating ways in which animals adapt to their environments.
Forces and Motion in Space: Upper KS2
2 x 1 hour sessions (for the whole class)
Our team will turn your hall or gym into a space lab so your students can carry out Galileo’s experiment to measure the rate at which objects fall. They will discuss the effects of gravity and air resistance. In the second session pupils will have a chance to make, fire and modify their own stamp rockets.
What is Electricity?: Upper KS2
Children are often taught the practicalities of electrical circuits but are rarely given an in-depth understanding of electricity as a form of energy. In this workshop we address this and combine role play with hands-on experiments and spectacular demonstrations. We are currently offering this workshop free to eligible schools through the kind support of the Edina Trust.
Bespoke Science Shows
We are able to offer one-off science shows for special events subject to availability. Call Noel Jackson on (0191) 243 8211 or email noel.jackson@life.org.uk for more information.
