Spectrophotometry is an important analytical technique and drug abuse is a serious problem in modern sport. We bring the two together in this workshop and students test for "drugs" in athletes' "urine". Students set up a calibration curve then test samples. The students then form an ethics committee to share their data and decide whether athletes should be banned? How sure are they of their results? Should their decisions err on the side of the athlete or the sport in general?
