The Life Science Centre in Newcastle is offering Brownies and Cubs specially-tailored visits which will help them towards their Stargazer and Astronomer badges.
Groups of Brownies and Cubs will be able to watch a planetarium show in the Centre's state-of-the-art planetarium. The show will explore the night-time stars and show the youngsters how to recognise many of our constellations and discover the ancient legends behind them. They will examine close up images of stars, as well as our sun and her family of planets in addition to learning about the phases of the moon and how meteor showers occur as well as watching the Northern Lights.
During a Solar System workshop in the Centre's Lifelab, Brownies and Cubs will make star-themed items and learn more about our solar system. They will discover how sailors used the position of the North Star to navigate the seas and make a constellation tube to take home to spot stars with even during the daytime.
Group leaders organising a trip to the Life Science Centre will receive a Badge information pack outlining the requirements of the badge; what will be achieved during the visit to Life; and any additional activities that need to be undertaken to complete the badges.
In addition to the above activities, groups can enjoy all of Life's main hands-on exhibitions, activities and events including the Human Life exhibition, exciting live science shows in the Life theatre, the motion simulator ride and much more, all for a one-off Badge Day admission price.
Brownie and Cub badge days are taking place at Life on the following weekends during 2010:
