Sporting Life

things to do with the kids, Newcastle upon Tyne

To celebrate the Olympic Games in 2012, join us at Life for some sport inspired activities and events for all ages. You don’t have to be an athlete to enjoy the North’s award-winning Science Centre. And remember - one ticket gets you access to everything including the North’s biggest planetarium, live shows in our theatre and a thrilling  motion ride. We also have a changing programme of exciting exhibitions and a special area for under 7s.

Here’s a flavour of what we’re doing during a summer of sport.

For the family:

New 4D Motion Ride- the only one in the North! Opens Saturday 26 May. Experience sensory overload with the incredible new 4D Motion Ride.

New live theatre show - Pigs Might Fly from 27 March  – 8 July 2012. Enjoy Angry Birds the Revenge, where the ‘pigs’ try to get their own back by finding increasingly clever methods of getting from one side of the stage to the other .

Make it-Fast! workshops: Monday 23 July - Friday 31 August (weekdays only)
Do you have what it takes to be top of our leader board? Are you already quick off the mark or can we improve your speed of reaction? Have some fun with our family workshops. Workshops will run throughout the day and are included in the price of admission. Simply sign up at reception on arrival.

For little ones:

Pre-school sports day Tuesday June 19. Get in the sporting spirit with your little ones: make your own champion’s torch; find out about the different countries taking part in this year’s Games and then compete in our very own ‘toddler triathlon!’

For adults:

Sporting Spirit- an evening of anecdotes and cocktails inspired by great games of the past. Thursday 14 June. Join Noel Jackson, Life’s Head of Education and resident mixologist, for a night of cocktails and anecdotes as we sprint through some of the great Games of the past.

For Schools (workshops):

Life has developed a range of hands-on workshops exploring how our body works, health, sport and lifestyle issues, including the popular Drugs & Sport workshop for secondary schools.  View a full list of workshops for all Key Stages.
