Join us for our monthly Sensory-friendly Sundays, dedicated quiet hours for people with autism and other sensory needs to enjoy the science centre.

Visitors will be able to explore all the exhibitions in the science centre and enjoy a relaxed performance in the North’s biggest planetarium.  Lighting and sound levels will be altered to accommodate those with sensory needs.

Our autism-friendly hours are 9.30am – 11.00am. You are welcome to stay after this time if you wish but please note that our traditional programme, lighting and sound levels will resume from 11.00am.

Ear defenders and sunglasses for both adults and children are available to hire for a £10.00 refundable deposit (subject to availability). We also have sensory bags available which include both ear defenders and sunglasses, as well as a copy of our visual story and some fidgets. These are available to hire for a £20.00 refundable deposit. Hand dryers in all areas of the centre will be turned off for the duration of the session.
