All treats and no tricks at Life this October half-term

Spooktacular news: on weekdays during this October half-term  (Monday 23 October – Friday 27 October), Life Science Centre will be opening an hour earlier than usual at 9.00am – giving little monsters even more time to enjoy a frightfully good day out.

Helping ghouls and boys of all ages to get into the Halloween spirit, the Science Centre will be filled with eerie decorations. All of the information about October half-term at Life is online now (life.org.uk/october) to help you carve out your plans for Halloween and the school holidays.

Brave souls can experience the chills and thrills of the 4D Motion Ride* with the Dracula 4D animation. And on the final weekend of half-term (28 and 29 October), visitors can create a Halloween paper lantern in the Making Space – they’re sure to last longer than pumpkins!

Visitors can also take the chance to visit Life’s latest shows in the Science Theatre and the planetarium, and to see the blockbuster exhibition Dino Jaws – which features life-size animatronic dinosaur models, including a terrifying T. rex and a trio of hungry velociraptors. Some dinos have their skin partially removed, showing the skull, jaws and teeth beneath – after all, it’s not Halloween without a few skeletons!

For more dinosaur fun, Life Science Centre will be running new Dinosaur Explorers workshops throughout the half-term holidays and an activity in its Making Space to create dinosaur dioramas (Monday 23 October – Friday 27 October only).

Elin Roberts, Head of Public Engagement at Life, said: “In Dinosaur Explorers, we want to find out how dinosaurs looked, sounded, moved and ate. The workshops use real fossils and are perfect for budding palaeontologists.”

Half-term visitors can also enjoy all of Life’s interactive zones, including the Young Explorers’ Zone, where mini monsters (under 7s) can let off some steam. All of these activities are included in the admission price to Life Science Centre.

It’s not just about the kids this Halloween, as adults (18+) can explore the Science Centre after dark with Life’s Halloween Late event, on Friday 27 October. Expect organ dissection demonstrations, a forensic science investigation and a dinosaur-themed house of horrors – are you brave enough to run the gauntlet?

*Please note – you must be at least 1.2 metres in height to use the Motion Ride. For safety reasons, age restrictions may apply to some activities. Please see life.org.uk for details.
