The Young Explorers' Zone will be closed all day on Friday 22 and Thursday 28 November, and will close at the earlier time of 5.00pm on Monday 25, Friday 29 and Saturday 30 November. Sorry for any disappointment caused.

From stethoscopes to spanners: a ‘bike doctor’ at Life

The International Centre for Life, home to many research and medical doctors, welcomed Dr Bike to the fold as they set up a clinic for free bike health checks in Times Square yesterday (Thursday 20 June).

The bike maintenance sessions, which were open to all of Life’s staff and visitors, were organised to support Clean Air Day – a national campaign that started in 2017, with the aim of teaching people more about air pollution and what can be done to reduce carbon emissions.

In addition to running the Dr Bike sessions, all staff and visitors who usually drive to Life were encouraged to leave their cars at home and to instead cycle in for a change.

Neil Rutherford, Head of Building Services and Green Team chair at Life, says: “It is very important that we support initiatives like this. We always encourage staff to use public transport, but we hope that by having Dr Bike in Times Square it will encourage more visitors to cycle to the science centre, too.”

Ben Cookson from The Cycle Hub, dubbed ‘Dr. Bike’ says: “We were happy to be in Times Square in the sunshine, doing what we love and helping Life staff and visitors with all their bike needs. It is also good that we are supporting a cause like Clean Air Day, which will hopefully encourage more people to choose cycling over driving!”
