Strictly Come Dinosaurs

Dancing dinosaurs took to Newcastle’s Central Station yesterday (22 August 2017), bringing a smile to the faces of busy commuters and lunching office-workers alike.

The surprise prehistoric performance was as part of a promotional flashmob for the blockbuster Dino Jaws exhibition, which is on now at Life Science Centre – only a stone’s throw away from the station.
The dance routine featured dinosaur dubstep and was performed to the classic 1980s hit Walk the Dinosaur.

Dino Jaws, which has come to Life Science Centre from the Natural History Museum in London, explores the secrets of dinosaur diets and features a whole host of animatronic dinosaur models, including a full-size Iguanadon and a terrifying T.rex head. Visitors to the exhibition can also explore intriguing hands-on exhibits, including real fossils and dinosaur poo!

“There’s a lot of interesting information in Dino Jaws, but it’s definitely a fun exhibition to be enjoyed by all of the family. That’s why we decided that a light-hearted flashmob is the perfect way to spread the word!” said Sarah Reed, Communications Manager at the Centre for Life, where Life Science Centre is based.

The flashmob was organised by Life Science Centre with assistance from Dance City, who recruited and choreographed the young dancers.

Helen Kumar, Dance Engagement Coordinator at Dance City said: “We had a lot of fun choreographing this! It was a great opportunity for two Newcastle cultural organisations to work together to breathe new life into these extinct creatures.”

Everything is included in the admission price to Life Science Centre, with highlights including Dino Jaws, state-of-the-art planetarium shows and live science demos in the Science Theatre with Life’s expert Science Explainers.
