Life Science Centre announces record-breaking visitor numbers

Life Science Centre in Newcastle was the place to be during the recent school holidays, with the popular attraction breaking its own record for visitor numbers at Easter.

Almost 21,000 people visited the science centre over the two-week holiday period – an impressive 10% increase on its previous record for the Easter break.

The Easter holidays offered visitors a last chance to see the long-running Dino Jaws exhibition, which had been at Life Science Centre since May 2017.

Linda Conlon, Chief Executive of Life, said: “Dino Jaws was incredibly popular – even nearly a year after it first opened, visitors were still flocking to see the exhibition. Our prehistoric friends can’t take sole credit for our success, though. As ever, the team at Life created an engaging programme for visitors during the holidays, including shows in the Science Theatre, planetarium and the 4D Motion Ride, as well as workshops on the science of why we love chocolate so much – a perennial favourite at Life for Easter. And, of course, the weather helped!

“And with everything included in one ticket, I think families recognise that Life offers great value for money for a full day out.”

Next weekend (28-29 April), Life Science Centre will host Maker Faire UK – a two-day festival of crafting, coding and garden shed inventing. Then all eyes turn to the highly anticipated launch of Robots – then and now – Life’s next blockbuster exhibition, which was developed by the Science Museum in London. Robots – then and now will open to the public on 26 May 2018.

Linda added: “I’m pleased that we are able to bring the Robots exhibition to the North East for the first time. It’s important to give people access to these incredible exhibitions in their home region and to offer the same educational opportunities to school children no matter where in the UK they live.”
