Forget the shelf, here’s ‘Elf in the science centre’

There’s a naughty elf on the loose in Newcastle’s Life Science Centre – and he’s posting his shenanigans on the organisation’s social media accounts. Already the mischievous elf has posted selfies showing him unplugging an exhibition, climbing a Christmas tree and making snow angels in an experiment to investigate fake snow!

The elf is vanishing before the science centre opens to the public, but you can follow the Facebook and Instagram Stories for @scienceatlife to see what the elf gets up to next.

The elf is only part of the festive fun at Life this Christmas. From now until 7 January, visitors can take a whirl on the outdoor ice rink*, investigate fake snow in the Experiment Zone** or explore the winter night sky in the planetarium. Festive storytelling will also be available twice a day at weekends and every day during the school holidays (22 December – 7 January 2019).

Elin Roberts, Head of Public Engagement at Life, said: “One of the highlights for this year is the festive storytelling. Listening to stories is a great way to develop children’s imaginations – especially when you have such a captivating storyteller.”

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? Then hop aboard The Polar Express Journey to the North Pole on Life’s 4D Motion Ride**.

Also included with admission, children can get stuck into making seasonal creations to take home, including LED decorations and winter lanterns (weekends only and every day during the school holidays).

Santa* will continue to make weekend trips to his rink-side grotto in Times Square until 23 December. He’s a popular fella, so pre-booking online is recommended.

Heading back indoors, if you enjoy a family sci-fi movie at Christmas, then the new exhibition Alien Invasion (opens 22 December), which features more than 39 original and replica props from film and TV, is a must! And if you’re not quite feeling the Christmas spirit, then indulge your inner Grinch with the live show How to be an Evil Genius***.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Christmas Village has set up camp alongside Life’s ice rink in Times Square, with traditional German street food huts, chestnuts roasting on a log fire, a Bavarian beer hall and a full-size carousel.

*Additional charges apply for meeting Santa and ice skating, with the rest of the festive fun included with your science centre ticket. We offer great value combo tickets so you can experience all of our winter wonderland activities. Skating is available until 24 February 2019.

**Age or height restrictions apply. Please see the website for more details:
