Fun (and Games!) at Life this Summer

With the world’s biggest collection of playable computer games, the region’s only 4D Motion Ride and the North’s biggest planetarium, the summer holidays at Life Science Centre are heating up…

Game On 2.0 is the highlight of Life’s summer offering. With over 100 games to play, there is no room for boredom with this hands-on exhibition exploring the history and culture of computer gaming from the past 60 years. Visitors can set the high scores on retro arcade classics, including Space Invaders and Pacman, or explore the very latest in virtual reality with the Oculus Rift. Combine this with original artwork from some of the biggest games around, including Tomb Raider, The Sims and World of Warcraft, and it becomes clear why Game On 2.0 has been described as a ‘MUST DO’ event.

Life also has plenty to entertain non-gamers over the summer break. Visitors can climb aboard the 4D Motion Ride* and help SpongeBob Squarepants rescue the jellyfish of Jellyfish Fields; take in a star-studded show in the planetarium; or don a pair of goggles in the Experiment Zone to carry out real, hands-on experiments.

“We always like to have something fresh and new each summer for our visitors to enjoy”, explains Ian Simmons, Science Communication Director at Life, “so alongside our new exhibition Game On 2.0, we also have a new show in the Science Theatre called ‘In a Spin’, all about the weird physics of spinning objects. Audience participation is encouraged - you have been warned!”

All of the activities are included in the admission price to Life Science Centre. So whether you want to unleash your inner scientist, get lost in the stars, or save the Earth from aliens, you can do it all this summer at Life.

*Please note – you must be at least 1.2 metres in height to use the Motion Ride.
