Explore the science of waves by experimenting with light, water and sound.
Investigate the fascinating world of waves
Manipulate light, water and sound and discover how waves drive a wide range of exciting careers.
In this physics workshop, students can dive into the role of a marine scientist using a ripple tank, become a lighting technician and control stage lights and coloured filters and step into the world of a sound engineer to find the best soundproof material using a decibel meter.
KS4 students can also try their hand at a required GCSE practical – using a ripple tank to measure the frequency, wavelength and speed of waves.
Make sure to add a science centre visit to your booking to continue the learning in our newest exhibition, Lightbox. Explore how this workshop links directly to our interactive exhibits.
Please note: The workshop uses a piece of equipment called a ripple tank that strobes. If there is a student who is photosensitive, they will be given alternative activities during that portion of the workshop and sat away from the rest of the group.
