Who Wants to be a Scientist?

Students will discover how scientists use their senses to study chemicals.

Students will become a scientist for the day

Students will take on the role of a scientist and use real laboratory equipment to create new substances and reveal their hidden properties.

They will discover how scientists use their senses to study chemicals by making scents and jelly worms, before ending the workshop with a dramatic whoosh!

By the end of the workshops students will have discovered:

How to use a range of laboratory equipment to safely handle and study chemicals.

How scientists use their senses of sight, touch, and smell to study the properties of chemicals.

That you can create new substances and reveal hidden properties of substances, by mixing chemicals together.

How scientists use lab equipment to extract chemicals that can be useful in our everyday lives.

School trip prices

We allow a ratio of 1 adult to every 5 children for most groups. Additional adults over this ratio will be charged. In the case of SEN groups, we may offer further free adult support on request – please contact us to discuss your requirements.

During winter months (from 9 November – 18 December), school science centre visits are combined with a skate on Life’s outdoor ice rink for the cost of £12 per child. See more about seasonal pricing.
