Planning your visit and booking
Skating sessions last approximately one hour (includes time to fit skates so expect 45 minutes on the ice).
We offer discounted rates for groups of 20 or more or exclusive hire of the rink for larger groups. Get in touch if you’d like a quote by emailing info@life.org.uk.
We recommend booking to guarantee your skate session. Pre booking for busy dates including Christmas Eve is essential.
We have no age limit for skating, if your child can walk, they are welcome to have a go on the rink. We have double bladed bob-skates which fit comfortably over a junior size 7 shoe and real skates single bladed skates must be worn for a junior size 8 upwards.
Children aged 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult on the rink. Children between 10 and 12 must have an adult watching from the side and children 13+ can skate without an adult present.
Members can pre book a discounted skating ticket on our website.
Yes, you are welcome to bring your own skates. Full ticket prices still apply
The ice rink will usually remain open unless there are extreme weather conditions. As its an outdoor activity we suggest wearing suitable clothing – waterproofs, hats and gloves are recommended. Some people like to bring a change of clothing – particularly spare socks.
Sometimes we must close the rink because of adverse weather. If this happens, we will do our very best to reschedule your visit to a date of your choice; sorry but no refunds will be given.
Don’t worry if you don’t have your ticket confirmation with you, we’ll still be able to check you in at reception using your name and address.
If you arrive late for your session, you can still skate, but no extra time will be added to the end of the skate session.
I’m sorry we’re unable to amend or cancel tickets. In line with our terms and conditions, tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable. This includes transport issues due to adverse weather or similar.
Yes, we will run Relaxed Skating Sessions where lighting and noise levels will be adjusted for people with sensory needs. Dates to be announced.
If you use a wheelchair and you would like to use the rink, we recommend that you visit during quieter times (early sessions at weekends). If the rink is quiet enough, we can provide foot grips to accompanying carers. Electric chair power must be turned off whilst on the rink and the carer must accompany on foot to assist the wheelchair user. We’d recommend calling the team on 0191 243 8210 ahead of your visit to avoid disappointment. Carers visit free of charge.
During your visit
We are able to take cash payments, however we would ask you to opt for contactless payment whenever possible. We accept all major credit/debit cards except American Express.
Why is contactless payment preferred? We’re a charity and it costs us to process cash. Also from a hygiene perspective, contactless is the safest option.
Skating aids are available to hire from reception for £5. This is not a deposit and is not refundable. Skating aids cannot be pre-booked and are hired out on a first come first served basis. Children should be below 1:2 meters to use these.
We can only keep shoes. No personal belongings should be left unattended. They must be either stored in a locker (available to hire at reception) or kept on yourself whilst skating.
Ice marshals will be present at all times. Feel free to ask them for any advice or tips. They will be there to help if anybody has a fall.
Yes, you are welcome to purchase a science centre ticket from reception. The science centre is open Monday – Friday, 10:00am – 3:00pm and Saturday – Sunday, 10:00am – 5:00pm.
Yes we have an onsite café serving a range of hot and cold drinks, savoury food and sweet treats. View our sample menu. Times Square Café is located next to our gift shop.
You are welcome to take photographs, but please be mindful of other visitors. We also have a new selfie station on the rink which is a perfect picture opportunity.
