Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming part of everyday life. It is changing how people find information, learn, work, create and make decisions.
Life and Artificial Intelligence
As a science centre, our role is to help people explore new ideas with curiosity, confidence and care. We use AI where it can genuinely improve what we do: making experiences more accessible, supporting better interpretation, helping visitors navigate our offer, improving how we understand audience needs, and giving schools and families opportunities to explore one of the defining technologies of our time. We will be transparent about when and how AI is used in visitor-facing experiences. Public-facing material supported by AI will remain subject to human review, and we will take care to protect privacy, safeguard children and maintain the trust that visitors, schools, families, partners, and funders place in Life. AI will support our work; it will not replace our judgement, our values or the human interaction that is central to a visit to Life.
We are especially mindful of our responsibility to children and young people. Children are still developing their understanding of trust, evidence, privacy, authorship and reality. For our youngest visitors, learning is rooted in play, movement, conversation, sensory exploration, curiosity, and relationships so where AI is part of our public programme, it will be age-appropriate, carefully mediated and designed to strengthen wider learning – not dominate it.
Life aims to be an organisation that understands AI well enough to use it responsibly, explain it clearly and help others engage with it critically and confidently.
Some examples of how this looks in practice:
- Unless stated, the content of exhibitions and programmes will continue to be created by talented people from within our team and beyond.
- Any use of AI to create materials for exhibitions or programmes will be clearly labelled as such, and will involve a human check before publication.
- We will be honest and open about the limitations of AI as well as the opportunities.
In short: we will use AI to enhance Life’s mission – not to replace the people, relationships, creativity and curiosity that define it.
