Take on the role of a chemist and use real laboratory equipment to identify mystery powders and create new substances. See how a flame can be used to identify a chemical and discover the beauty and wonder of chemical reactions.

By the end of the workshops students will have discovered:

  • How labs are designed to help scientists use chemicals safely.
  • How to use a range of lab equipment such as pipettes, Bunsen burners, funnels, and spatulas.
  • How scientists identify unknown chemicals.
  • What happens when chemicals react with one another, such as change of colour, change of temperature, change from liquid to solid.
  • How scientists create new substances by mixing chemicals together.
