Terms and conditions

For your safety, comfort, and enjoyment, the following measures are in place: 

  • We recommend visitors aged 12 years and older continue wearing a face covering, unless medically exempt.
  • Online booking with timed slots remains – for members too.
  • This helps us to monitor capacity.Some slots will be kept free for walk-ups - but booking is advised to avoid disappointment. 
  • Enhanced cleaning regimes remain in place and there are hand sanitisation stations throughout the building.
Please understand that our COVID-19 safety measures may be updated at short notice, which could be on the day of your visit.

General Ticketing


When purchasing admission tickets please follow the guidelines with regards to age suitability and ID cards.

Late arrivals may not be admitted and unfortunately refunds cannot be given. The International Centre for Life reserves the right to cancel events and refunds will be given in this instance. Details of the programme may change.

The International Centre for Life reserves the right to request and carry out bag and body searches on arrival at the venue. You may be denied entry if you refuse a request to be searched and your ticket will not be refunded.

The International Centre for Life reserves the right to refuse admission or to eject customers in reasonable circumstances (for example taking health and safety, environmental and security concerns into account).

Life is located next to Newcastle Central Station, and parking is available in nearby Times Square Car Park (open 24 hours a day). Full details about hourly parking rates can be found on our website. Times Square Car Park is situated just a few minutes away from the science centre. Sat Nav reference: NE1 4AD (takes you to Times Square Car Park). Vehicle height restrictions: 7ft or 2.1m in height. Limited spaces for taller vehicles outside the main multi-storey car park are also available.

Pre-purchased parking tickets can only be used on the day of your science centre visit and only valid for a maximum 5 hour stay.


Concessionary tickets, where available, are for:
 
  • Those who are aged 60 and over.
  • Those who are aged 18 and over and are in full-time education with valid student ID to be shown on arrival.
  • Those who are unwaged (proof that you are in receipt of support is required).

Carers for disabled visitors are admitted free (limited to one per disabled person). Standard ticket categories apply to disabled visitors. To take advantage of this, please make yourself known to our reception staff and they will be more than happy to help. If you have any access enquiries please contact our bookings team on (0191) 243 8223 before your visit.


A family ticket, where available, is for four people: 2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children. Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Dogs are not permitted on site except for support dogs.
 

The International Centre for Life is private property. It’s a popular subject for photographers and filmmakers and, although we are happy in most instances for architectural photographs/films to be taken, please let us know in advance by informing a member of the science centre reception team or contacting the marketing and comms team on marketing@life.org.uk.

You are welcome to take photographs/films of your friends and family while visiting the science centre or ice rink, but please refrain from taking photographs of, or filming, other people without prior permission. Life and any other partners cannot accept any responsibility for photography or filming taken by other individuals attending the event.

Life may photograph or film activities which may feature visitors - for marketing purposes. Entry to the Life site is deemed acceptance of this and you therefore agree that Life (or any authorised party) may use such images/footage in any marketing materials, in any format. You further agree that copyright rests with Life or authorised parties.
 

Tickets for our special events are generally subject to our standard science centre ticketing terms and conditions (see above). However, please see the event page for anything specific to that event, e.g. age restrictions, entry conditions etc.

Once your booking has been processed you will receive an email confirmation to the email address you specified. It is your responsibility to check, prior to purchase, that the information you have supplied to us in respect of your online ticket requirements is accurate. We are only responsible for issuing online tickets in accordance with the information you provide. Once purchased, the date for which your ticket has been purchased cannot be changed. Payments for tickets are non-refundable, except where an event is cancelled by Life. The International Centre for Life reserves the right to cancel events and refunds will be given in this instance. Tickets are only valid for the date stated upon them.

Save in respect of liability which cannot be limited by law, our liability to you pursuant to these booking conditions is limited to the face value of the ticket purchased.

These booking terms and conditions are governed by English law and subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
 

As we’re a charity, science centre tickets include a voluntary 10% donation which allows us to claim an extra 25p in every pound from the Government, providing the donor is a UK taxpayer. It’s called a Gift Aid visit and it makes a huge difference to charities like us. To enable us to reclaim your Gift Aid, you must be paying an amount of income or capital gains tax at least equal to or greater than the amount of this donation.

To opt out of the Gift Aid ticket price, please purchase your science centre ticket on arrival.

On arrival at Life Science Centre, the following will be required:
 

  • Appropriate proof of entitlement to any discounted ticket rate claimed (such as NUS card, valid Membership card etc) for each person to be admitted under that discount. You may be refused entry or asked to pay the full admission price if suitable proof is not provided.

  • The name and booking reference number (provided at the time of purchase) for online orders.

  • The payment card used to purchase online tickets on this website (Life reserves the right to refuse admission if the correct booking reference and/or payment card is not produced).

  • Suitable proof of age (ID) for age-limited events.

  • No ticket may be resold without the prior written consent of Life. If any person attempts to enter Life with a ticket that has been resold without Life’s written consent, Life may refuse entry and no compensation is payable to that person by Life.

Life is committed to providing a healthy, safe and comfortable environment for all visitors, customers, contractors and staff. To this end, smoking is prohibited in all buildings and outside areas across the site. E-cigarettes are also prohibited.

Membership Terms and Conditions 

  1. Life Science Centre membership cards are valid for 12 months from the day they are bought. 

  1. Although we are open every day of the year, apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, there may be rare occasions when we need to close parts or all of the centre or ice rink, or close earlier than usual to make changes to our programme, undertake refurbishment or for commercial bookings.  We will email you if this is the case, so it is important to let us know if you change your email address. We do also advise checking the website on the day of your visit for the most up-to-date information.   

  1. Membership cannot be transferred to another person, is non-refundable in part or whole and cannot be used at the same time as another offer.  

  1. Please present your membership card at reception on arrival. Normal admission times apply, unless otherwise stated. 

  1. Please let us know if your card is lost or stolen.  

  1. Members under 12 years must please be accompanied by an adult. 

  1. Membership benefits cannot be used in conjunction with other offers or ticket types e.g., group booking, school or group visit, birthday party etc. unless otherwise stated. 

  1. Membership does not give free entry to additional events at Life where an extra fee is charged (e.g ice skating), unless this is specifically stated. Discounts may apply – see our website for details. Where discounts apply, and an online booking is made, please bring your membership card to the event with you.  

  1. Membership cards are the property of Life and we do reserve the right to withdraw the scheme at any time. 

  1. General terms and conditions on entry to the Life Science Centre apply. 

  1. By joining the membership scheme, you agree to be contacted by Life and will receive news, exclusive offers and any important information such as centre closures. 

  1. To redeem your members discount in the shop and cafés please present your valid card before the transaction is completed. 

  1. Certain items may not be included in the shop/cafe discount. Please ask our team for details.   

  1. Try before you buy membership upgrades must be completed on the day of your visit. 

Life reserves the right to close parts, or all, of the science centre or ice rink, to undertake refurbishment, programme changes or for commercial bookings.

Prize draw terms and conditions: The prize will be clearly stated for each competition. Only one entry per applicant. The prize is non-transferable, non-negotiable and non-refundable. No cash alternative is available. The winner will be picked at random and notified within 21 days of the closing date. If the winner fails to respond within 14 days of notification another winner will be picked. Prize draws are not open to Life Science Centre staff and family members.
