Terms and conditions

We ask that you follow our COVID-19 safety measures during your visit:
  • Wear a face covering. (Disabled visitors and those with breathing difficulties will be exempt from this rule if they are wearing the Sunflower lanyard. Children under 11 years are also exempt.)
  • Maintain social distancing from other visitors and staff where possible.
  • Do not visit if you have any of the symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Scanning the NHS QR code poster displayed by the entrance is encouraged. Use the NHS COVID-19 app on your smartphone.  
Please understand that our COVID-19 safety measures may be updated at short notice, which could be on the day of your visit.

General Ticketing

When purchasing admission tickets please follow the guidelines with regards to age suitability and ID cards.

Late arrivals may not be admitted and unfortunately refunds cannot be given. The International Centre for Life reserves the right to cancel events and refunds will be given in this instance. Details of the programme may change.

The International Centre for Life reserves the right to request and carry out bag and body searches on arrival at the venue. You may be denied entry if you refuse a request to be searched and your ticket will not be refunded.

The International Centre for Life reserves the right to refuse admission or to eject customers in reasonable circumstances (for example taking health and safety, environmental and security concerns into account).

Life is located next to Newcastle Central Station, and parking is available in nearby Times Square Car Park (open 24 hours a day). Full details about hourly parking rates can be found on our website. Times Square Car Park is situated just a few minutes away from the science centre. Sat Nav reference: NE1 4AD (takes you to Times Square Car Park). Vehicle height restrictions: 7ft or 2.1m in height. Limited spaces for taller vehicles outside the main multi-storey car park are also available.

Pre-purchased parking tickets can only be used on the day of your science centre visit and only valid for a maximum 5 hour stay.

Concessionary tickets, where available, are for:
  • Those who are aged 60 and over.
  • Those who are aged 18 and over and are in full-time education with valid student ID to be shown on arrival.
  • Those who are unwaged (proof that you are in receipt of support is required).

Carers for disabled visitors are admitted free (limited to one per disabled person). Standard ticket categories apply to disabled visitors. To take advantage of this, please make yourself known to our reception staff and they will be more than happy to help. If you have any access enquiries please contact our bookings team on (0191) 243 8223 before your visit.

A family ticket, where available, is for four people: 2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children. Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Dogs are not permitted on site except for support dogs.

The International Centre for Life is private property. It’s a popular subject for photographers and filmmakers and, although we are happy in most instances for architectural photographs/films to be taken, please let us know in advance by informing a member of the science centre reception team or contacting the marketing and comms team on

You are welcome to take photographs/films of your friends and family while visiting the science centre or ice rink, but please refrain from taking photographs of, or filming, other people without prior permission. Life and any other partners cannot accept any responsibility for photography or filming taken by other individuals attending the event.

Life may photograph or film activities which may feature visitors - for marketing purposes. Entry to the Life site is deemed acceptance of this and you therefore agree that Life (or any authorised party) may use such images/footage in any marketing materials, in any format. You further agree that copyright rests with Life or authorised parties.

Tickets for our special events are generally subject to our standard science centre ticketing terms and conditions (see above). However, please see the event page for anything specific to that event, e.g. age restrictions, entry conditions etc.

Once your booking has been processed you will receive an email confirmation to the email address you specified. It is your responsibility to check, prior to purchase, that the information you have supplied to us in respect of your online ticket requirements is accurate. We are only responsible for issuing online tickets in accordance with the information you provide. Once purchased, the date for which your ticket has been purchased cannot be changed. Payments for tickets are non-refundable, except where an event is cancelled by Life. The International Centre for Life reserves the right to cancel events and refunds will be given in this instance. Tickets are only valid for the date stated upon them.

Save in respect of liability which cannot be limited by law, our liability to you pursuant to these booking conditions is limited to the face value of the ticket purchased.

These booking terms and conditions are governed by English law and subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

As we’re a charity, science centre tickets include a voluntary 10% donation which allows us to claim an extra 25p in every pound from the Government, providing the donor is a UK taxpayer. It’s called a Gift Aid visit and it makes a huge difference to charities like us. To enable us to reclaim your Gift Aid, you must be paying an amount of income or capital gains tax at least equal to or greater than the amount of this donation.

To opt out of the Gift Aid ticket price, please purchase your science centre ticket on arrival.

On arrival at Life Science Centre, the following will be required:

  • Appropriate proof of entitlement to any discounted ticket rate claimed (such as NUS card, valid Membership card etc) for each person to be admitted under that discount. You may be refused entry or asked to pay the full admission price if suitable proof is not provided.

  • The name and booking reference number (provided at the time of purchase) for online orders.

  • The payment card used to purchase online tickets on this website (Life reserves the right to refuse admission if the correct booking reference and/or payment card is not produced).

  • Suitable proof of age (ID) for age-limited events.

  • No ticket may be resold without the prior written consent of Life. If any person attempts to enter Life with a ticket that has been resold without Life’s written consent, Life may refuse entry and no compensation is payable to that person by Life.

Life is committed to providing a healthy, safe and comfortable environment for all visitors, customers, contractors and staff. To this end, smoking is prohibited in all buildings and outside areas across the site. E-cigarettes are also prohibited.
If you have an annual membership to Life, you will still need to book a time slot to visit. We’re working on something exciting behind the scenes and will be refreshing our annual membership programme in April 2022!

In the short term, visitors are welcome to purchase an annual membership but before doing so, please be aware of the following:
  • There are no extra discounts associated with the membership at present
  • Life will be closed on weekdays from Monday 31 August – Friday 22 October, re-opening for October half term
  • In the case of any COVID-related closure, Life can not extend your membership to cover these days

Life reserves the right to close parts, or all, of the science centre or ice rink, to undertake refurbishment, programme changes or for commercial bookings.

Prize draw terms and conditions: The prize will be clearly stated for each competition. Only one entry per applicant. The prize is non-transferable, non-negotiable and non-refundable. No cash alternative is available. The winner will be picked at random and notified within 21 days of the closing date. If the winner fails to respond within 14 days of notification another winner will be picked. Prize draws are not open to Life Science Centre staff and family members.
