The Climate Challenge

Free event for Year 12 and 13 students interested in science, geography, climate and sustainability.  

In this special, free event, Sixth Form students will enjoy a day of hands-on climate change workshops and a climate careers fair, with experts from Northern Gas, Groundwork, Northern PowerGrid and more.  

Wednesday 23 October, 9.30am – 3.30pm.

Workshop – The Future of Energy
Northern Gas will help students explore the journey to Net Zero. Session will involve students carrying out electrolysis of water and building/using hydrogen powered model cars. 

Workshop – The Wild Oysters Project 
With Groundwork, students will see for themselves how oysters can reduce carbon and protect our coastline. 

Workshop – Climate Chaos
Students will enjoy an escape room style session, solving a series of STEM challenges linked to climate-based careers. 

Mini Careers Fair
Guests with climate careers, including the presenters from the workshops, will speak with them one-to-one and find out more about careers in the climate field. 

 

Places are fully funded and will be initially limited to 3 students per school plus one member of school staff. 

Please note: students must be accompanied by a member of school staff and will be expected to bring a packed lunch.
