Families looking for a fabulous fun weekend during British Science Week can explore the power of curiosity at Newcastle’s Life Science Centre.

British Science Week is a national 10-day national celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), which runs from 6 to 15 March.

At Life, families can enjoy a programme of hands-on activities, live shows and planetarium shows reflecting this year’s theme, Curiosity. More than 2,500 schoolchildren are also taking part in bespoke workshops throughout March.

A recent national survey* revealed that the number of people who feel well informed about science has fallen from 51% in 2019 to just 43% in 2025, highlighting the need to give people a sense of personal connection to science across their daily lives.

“This recent survey reinforces the vital role centres like Life play in helping bridge the gap by making science accessible, engaging and emphasising its relevance to our lives.”
