Adults can enjoy a breathtaking tour of the night sky at Newcastle’s Life Science Centre (Life).

Live Skies is an after-hours show in Life’s state-of-the-art planetarium that explores the stars, mythology and astronomy of the night sky.

Visitors to the evening show on Thursday 14 August will be fully immersed in 360° visuals of the night sky above them, without weather or light pollution spoiling the view.

Building on the success of the popular planetarium shows developed for family audiences, this extended presenter-led live show for adults delves deeper into the history and mythology surrounding the patterns of seasonal stars, with a spotlight on Hercules, best seen in the summer.

The show, which runs from 6.30 to 7.30pm, will reveal the myth behind Hercules through an animated retelling of The Epic of Gilgamesh, the ancient tale that inspired the constellation. It will also take a deeper look into the Hercules constellation, revealing the galaxies hidden within it and what they tell us about the early universe.

And while nature’s early morning parade of six planets in August is dependent on clear skies, visitors to Live Skies also get a close-up tour of all the planets as the show continues across the solar system.

Life’s planetarium is the largest in the north and uses advanced technology for ultra-rich, high-resolution visuals and wonderful sound quality to provide a unique, totally immersive experience.

A pay bar is available for the evening show and for more details and tickets, which cost £10, visit our website.
