Friday 20 November 2026, various times
Couple wearing football shirts skating to Sam Fender songs on Newcastle's outdoor ice rink.

NEW this year: Wear your black and white and belt out Geordie (tunes) on Newcastle’s outdoor ice rink!

We’re not short of iconic musicians in our corner of the North, with Sam Fender, Jade, Cheryl, Sting and more! Celebrate their iconic tunes with us on real ice.

This one-off event situated in Times Square, just outside Life Science Centre is perfect for adults and teens of all skating abilities.

The rink runs throughout the Festive season, providing the ultimate festive experience under the glow of twinkling lights.

Skating sessions last approximately one hour, including time to fit your skates, with around 45 minutes spent on the ice. Skates are provided.

Limited availability so online booking is recommended. Flexi-tickets are available in case you need to rearrange your booking. Note if changing date from a special event, you may have to select an alternative themed evening or a standard skating session.

Sessions are on Friday 20 November at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm

Useful info before your skate

  • Children aged 9 years and under must be accompanied by an adult on the ice. Children aged 10 – 12 years must be supervised by an adult, either on the ice rink or from the viewing platform.
  • Skating aids can be hired on the day of your visit for £6.00 (subject to availability). They are suitable for children under 1.2 metres in height.
  • Space on the viewing platform is limited and reserved for those supervising their children.
  • Skate hire is included in your ticket. If you have your own skates you’re welcome to use them, but we can’t give discounts.
  • Lockers are available from reception for a small charge to store valuables, but ultimately all items (including shoes) are left at your own risk.
  • Please wear suitable clothing – waterproofs, hats and gloves are recommended. Some people like to bring a change of clothing – particularly spare socks. Gloves and socks can be bought from the Life shop if you’re caught short.
  • If you use a wheelchair and you would like to use the rink, we recommend that you visit during quieter times (early sessions at weekends). You must be accompanied by an accompanying carer on foot and we will provide foot grips to accompanying carers, sorry but the carer cant skate whilst supporting you. Electric wheelchairs must be turned off whilst on the ice. We’d recommend calling the team on 0191 243 8210 ahead of your visit to avoid disappointment. Carers visit free of charge.
