Families can get stuck into egg-citing experiments and make and take home some cracking creations this Easter at Newcastle’s Life Science Centre.

The award-winning centre has extra Easter-themed activities designed to stimulate creativity and curiosity among families, running from Wednesday 27 March to 17 April.

Visitors can challenge themselves in the Making Studios to design and build a vehicle to transport a fragile egg and then put it through its paces to see if it cracks under pressure on the Easter Egg hill.

They can also grab a lab coat and explore the science behind the age-old tradition of rolling decorated eggs and become an egg-pert in the factors that influence the speed of how fast an egg rolls.

Other activities and exhibits include live shows, a tour of the night skies in the planetarium, the revamped Play Zone for under 7s and a new show on the large digital ‘Sphere’, featuring TV weatherman Ross Hutchinson giving an extreme planetary forecast, including news of how it’s raining diamonds on Saturn!

In addition, the new Growing our Future exhibits in the Science Now! Hub, showcase how local scientists and researchers are taking inspiration from nature, including breathable walls that can open and close like pinecones and walls that can be built out of fungi to one day replace concrete.

Life, which has been independently rated best in England for visitor experience, has also recently been voted by the public as being the favourite regional rainy day indoor attraction in a ChronicleLive poll.
