Easter holiday highlights
Unleash your creativity and engineering skills with this most egg-cellent Egg-Mobile Challenge – Once your creation is complete, put it through its paces on the Easter Egg Hill. Will it work or will it crack under the pressure? Feel free to take your creation home.
Egg rolling experiments – Grab a lab coat and explore the science behind the age-old tradition of rolling decorated eggs down grassy banks. Get hands-on and find out what factors influence the speed of eggs (ages 7+).
Wow Zone – Get hands-on with multi-sensory exhibits including light play, dramatic demonstrations controlled by you and the ‘Big Machine’ which stands over six metres tall!
Fun for under-7s – Explore some new additions to Play Zone. Cross bridges over the River Tyne and spot the famous landmarks, including the Angel of the North.
Discover the stars – Blast off into space and experience a tour of the night sky in the Planetarium. Take a look at the different stars, how to find them on your own and be dazzled by a close-up encounter.
Gaia, our planet Earth – be amazed by the seven-metre wide, glowing replica of our shared home, created by British artist Luke Jerram. On the upper level of the science centre, grab an easel and create your own Earth-inspired artwork.
Live Science Show – Is what you see a ‘pigment’ of your imagination? Find out in our mind-boggling show all about colour!
Discovery backpacks – Want to make your visit extra special? See a rainbow indoors, get to know Planet Earth and listen to some noisy toys with our Discovery Backpacks. (Limited availability. £10 refundable deposit required on entry).
